To continue the Pop culture’s trip, my classmates and I discovered about the history of music and the genre of music and a lot of things related to these music lessons. I learned the history of the Blues from A Short History of the Blues: Emerging Music of the 20th Century on Youtube. My aha movement is blues music is type of slave music which shows the sorrow, love, Civil Rights, and joys of African Americans. Blues music also shows American culture is not just influenced by Blues, rather the Blues shows the transformation of American society because of its participation in the Civil Rights Movement and development of many musical genres. I also did not know that Blues is the mother of all modern music. After knowing the history of the Blues, I learned more different kinds of genres which I did not know by doing the genre project. For example, classical rock combines a particular guitar-driven rock sound. Motown is a style of rhythm and blues music, also called R&B. 60s British Invasion is about pop music and rock music and influenced by Blue and rock and roll music of the US, intriguing accents, new fashion ideas and hairstyles. After learning Blues music, I moved on exploring Rap music. My aha movement in Rap is a part of the wider hip-hop culture, which includes the spoken word(the MC), the beats(the DJ), break-dancing, and graffiti art. I learned that Rap is undeniably one of the most popular genres in America today. Also, Rap told rhythmic stories of the past to their villages over the simple beat of a drum. Before Rap was a subculture but now rap belongs to the mainstream. Hip hop is like a canopy of an umbrella which can cover rap and break dancing and fashion. In this music section I explored a lot of things about music which I did not know before.
